Director, Training and Education

A nationally regarded expert in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, Dr. David C. Wang returned home to Northern Virginia in early 2011 to join the Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine in McLean. Prior to this, he established a successful practice in musculoskeletal, sports, and rehabilitative medicine at two Harvard Medical School-affiliated centers — Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Newton Wellesley Hospital — and served as an instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Wang is an international leader in the growing field of regenerative injection therapy, including Prolotherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection, novel treatments that promote the natural healing of tendon, ligament and joint injuries. He is also skilled in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and osteopathic manual medicine.

A gifted teacher, he donates much of his time and expertise to training physicians from across the world in regenerative injection therapy during medical mission programs organized by the Hackett Hemwall Foundation and the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine. These missions provide critically needed medical services to thousands of underserved people in Honduras and Mexico. Dr. Wang is frequently invited to lecture both locally and nationally, including serving as the course director of a manual medicine workshop presented at the national American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Assembly. He has also published clinical training guides on prolotherapy and textbook chapters on musculoskeletal medicine and spine care.

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Dr. Wang graduated in the top 2% of his class from Fairfax County’s prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Wanting to stay close to family, he attended Virginia Tech and graduated summa cum laude as a Commonwealth Scholar with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Biology and “Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise.” He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received the Student D.O. of the Year Award and was selected as a teaching Fellow in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Dr. Wang completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, during which time he was appointed Chief Resident.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Wang is a long-time practitioner of the martial arts and holds black belts in both Taekwondo and Hsing-I Kung Fu. Having suffered himself through numerous chronic injuries during his youth, he has empathy for patients’ physical pain and a passion for helping patients recover and reclaim their lives.
